My Favorite Coffee Shops in Zurich to Work & Teach

A little coffee, a little work, and my favorite corners of Zurich.

Today’s blog is a little different. Less German grammar, more Zurich lifestyle.

Whether you’re living in Switzerland and looking for your next favorite coffee spot, or you’re somewhere in New York, Florida, Paris, Dubai, Singapore or elsewhere in the world planning a future trip to Zurich, consider this your little insider list.

When I’m home in Zurich, I rarely work from the same place every day. One of the things I love most about running Csilla Language Lab is that the classroom has no address.

Sometimes I’m teaching online from home. Sometimes I’m planning lessons over coffee. And sometimes the café itself becomes the classroom for one of my in-person conversational German classes.

These are four of the places you’ll find me rotating between most weeks.

01. Ralph’s Coffee

For a little New York energy in Zurich

One of Zurich’s newest coffee spots has quickly become one of my favorites.

Ralph’s Coffee feels a little like New York landed in the middle of Zurich. The signature green, the Ralph Lauren aesthetic, the outdoor tables, the croissants. It’s fashionable, very Instagrammable and definitely one of those places where having your laptop open somehow feels chic.

Maybe it’s the former New Yorker in me, but this one immediately felt familiar.

Come for: the atmosphere, people-watching, coffee and a little NYC nostalgia.

CL tip: Bring the laptop. You’ll probably want to stay awhile.

02. Monocle Café

The international Zurich favorite

Monocle has been one of my Zurich favorites for a long time.

Located in Seefeld, it has that relaxed but very international feeling I love. You’ll hear different languages around you, see people working over coffee and almost always find an interesting mix of locals, expats and international visitors.

It’s the kind of place that captures a side of Zurich I think visitors sometimes miss. Yes, Zurich is Swiss, but it’s also incredibly international.

And for someone whose students are scattered around the world, that feels very CL.

Come for: the international atmosphere, Seefeld neighborhood vibes and an easy workday coffee.

03. DRAFT. Coffee

Sleek design meets German conversation

Another Seefeld favorite, but with a completely different personality.

DRAFT. is sleek, modern and beautifully designed, but it’s also comfortable enough to actually sit down and have a proper conversation.

That’s exactly why I often choose it for my in-person conversational German classes.

Instead of sitting in a traditional classroom, we can order a coffee and actually use German. We talk about travel, work, life in Switzerland, the weekend, fashion, culture or whatever comes up naturally.

Because sometimes the best language practice happens when you forget that you’re practicing.

Come for: design, good coffee, conversation and a very modern Zurich feel.

04. Bar Sacchi

My neighborhood behind-the-scenes spot

And then there’s Sacchi.

This one is less about discovering the newest Zurich hotspot and more about real life for me. It’s in my neighborhood, which means it has become one of the places where a lot of Csilla Language Lab happens behind the scenes.

Lesson planning. Emails. Worksheets. Content ideas. Scheduling. Preparing classes. And, naturally, lots of coffee.

If the other cafés are where you might see the polished CL moment, Sacchi is where you’re more likely to find me buried in my laptop actually building it.

Come for: local neighborhood Zurich, an easy coffee and a glimpse of everyday city life.

The Classroom Has No Address

That sentence has started to describe Csilla Language Lab more and more.

My students might be joining me online from Switzerland, the United States, Asia or somewhere else entirely. Other days, I’m sitting across from someone in a Zurich café helping them become more confident speaking German in the country they now call home.

And I love that.

Learning a language doesn’t always need four walls, a whiteboard and a textbook.

Sometimes all you need is a conversation and a cup of coffee.

Want to learn German with me in Zurich?

I also offer private in-person conversational German classes in Zurich, perfect for expats, international professionals or anyone who wants to feel more comfortable actually speaking German in everyday life.

And yes, sometimes your classroom might look a lot like one of the cafés above. ☕️
