Mid-Summer Check-In Summer Checklist + 5 Easy Ways to Get Ready for the New School Year

Summer always seems to fly by.

Whether your family has been relaxing at the beach, exploring a new country, visiting loved ones, or simply enjoying slower days at home, I hope this season has been filled with wonderful memories.

Here at Csilla Language Lab, I always love seeing where my students are spending their summer—from Europe to North America and beyond. While summer is all about making memories, it's also the perfect time to keep a little German in your daily routine before school starts again.

Before we slowly swap swimsuits for school bags, let's do a little mid-summer check-in!

5 Easy Ways to Get Ready for School (Without Ending Summer Early)

The goal isn't to bring school into summer—it's simply to keep German fresh in a fun and natural way.

📚 1. Read Together for 10–15 Minutes a Day

A German picture book, chapter book, comic, or magazine keeps vocabulary active while building reading confidence.

A little reading goes a long way.

🎬 2. Turn Screen Time into Learning Time

Watch a favorite movie or TV show in German.

Children naturally absorb pronunciation, expressions, and new vocabulary while having fun.

🗣️ 3. Bring German into Everyday Moments

You don't need a classroom.

Count the stairs, describe your dinner, play "I Spy," or talk about your day in German for just a few minutes.

Small moments create lasting progress.

✈️ 4. Let Summer Become the Classroom

Travel offers endless learning opportunities.

Encourage your child to read signs, order ice cream, recognize German words, or describe what they see.

Real-life experiences make language memorable.

💻 5. Ease Back into Learning Before September

A few German lessons before school begins can help children refresh vocabulary, rebuild confidence, and return to their routine feeling prepared—not overwhelmed.

Sometimes a little refresher is all they need.

❤️ Enjoy Every Moment

Summer should still feel like summer.

The goal isn't hours of homework or grammar exercises. It's about creating small, enjoyable opportunities to keep German part of everyday life while making beautiful family memories.

Before we know it, September will be here—and a little preparation now can make the transition back to school much easier.

I hope the rest of your summer is filled with sunshine, laughter, and unforgettable adventures.
